Garrison and Control
Return to Campaign Rules
Garrison
What: Garrison is a concept in this campaign that seeks to simulate the idea of securing and protecting newly conquered territory. Your garrison force might be building infrastructure, hunting down fleeing enemies, patrolling for new threats, or anything else that makes sense. A new territory will require a commitment of a certain number of points from your forces (from your Order of Battle and/or Auxiliary Forces) for a certain period of time. You will select a certain number of points of units and commit them to the task of garrisoning that territory. These units are not available for any other conflict during the time they are garrisoning the territory. If that territory is attacked by someone else, for example, those units will fight in the coming battle. If your army attacks someone else, your garrisoning units will not be available to participate in that battle.
Who: Muster a Crusade Army from your available forces and assign them to the task at hand.
When: After a game in which you conquer a territory (or at other times as the story may require), your forces will commit to that territory for a certain length of time based on the territory’s rules. You can abandon the territory early if needed, returning it to neutral control.
How: Muster a Crusade Army for your garrison and send the list to the Campaign Master. This list will be the forces that defend any attack from other players. It will be a secret unless they gain intelligence on your forces. These units are not available to be mustered into another Crusade Army until the time for garrisoning has ended.
Example 1: Garrison Gary just conquered the mining asteroid Grimdarkia from Necron Nick. The place is still full of canoptek scarabs, however, and they need to be stamped out. The territory rules for Grimdarkia say that it must be garrisoned by 900-1,000pts for two weeks. Garrison Gary now has a 2,000pt Order of Battle so he commits half his forces to defending Grimdarkia. Half is still available to him.
Necron Nick adds a few new units and decides to attack Garrison Gary again. Garrison Gary’s garrison must be used to defend the counter-attack, but depending on the points limit, he may be able to bring other units as well.
Garrison Gary fends off Necron Nick. But a week later (with one week still to go), Garrison Gary needs to attack Chaos Kevin on the planet of Hammervania. That mission calls for 2,000 pt battles, but Garrison Gary can’t use his garrison because they’re still on Grimdarkia. He’s got 1,000 pts, though, so he coordinates a 2v1 game with Alliance Allen. Garrison Gary and Alliance Allen will field a total of 2k points to take on the army of Chaos Kevin.
