HouseRules

Retreat!

Rule: Any player can declare a tactical retreat at any point after the end of the first firefight phase. This immediately ends the game with a victory for the opposing player. The winner may choose to score one point from any remaining Tac Op using any operative that is still on the board. The player who conceded using the retreat option gains one free re-roll for either a Casualty Test or Battle Scar.

Design Note: Unlike tournament or matched play games, narrative games do not gain anything from maximizing score. Often players will find themselves in a situation in the mid or late game where it becomes impossible to win, and further play could mean additional casualties for their team. This provides an option for players to concede and recover from a stinging defeat, while also allowing their opponent to score a missed Tac Op and make progress on their Spec Op.

Minimum Roster

Rule: If a team roster at any point drops below the minimum number of operatives needed to play, you may use the Operative Assigned requisition for free, so long as it is used to create a legal roster. Note that you cannot choose for operatives to fail their battle scar test in order to replace a scarred operative for free.

Design Note: Some players may face the misfortune of losing multiple operatives early into the campaign, before they have earned enough Requisition Points to replace them. Unlucky dice rolls should not render a team unplayable.

Tactical Uplink

Rule: Change the wording of the strategic asset Tactical Uplink to read: Once per Turning Point game, you can use a Tactical Ploy without spending any for 1 (one) fewer CP.

Design Note: The effect of gaining a free Tactical Ploy (including Command Reroll) every turning point provides a significant advantage, far out of step with any other strategic asset. Limiting the effect to once per game still provides a powerful bonus without diminishing other strategic assets.

Critical Ops 2022 Equivalence

Rule: Players must use Tac Ops from the Critical Ops 2022 mission pack. Outdated Tac Ops are not allowed. In cases where an outdated Tac Op is needed in order to fulfill a Requisition or Spec Op, use the following table to find the equivalent Tac Op to use instead.
